关怀与分享 Care & Share

美门残障关怀基金会自成立以来，致力秉持着提升残障人士的生活素质和协助他们融入社会的方向而努力。但由于残障人士多来自贫穷家庭及面对肢残所造成的限制，须要各项残障辅助器材才能独立生活。承蒙社会热心人士的慷慨支持并在拿订巴杜卡周美芬的见证下，我们共送出了10部轻型轮椅、3辆电单车和一辆电动轮椅给有需要的残障同胞。目前，我们尚需35部轻型轮椅、13部电动轮椅、和23辆电单车。恳请热心人士继续给予我们支持，协助更多有需要的残障朋友。

Since the establishment of Beautiful Gate Foundation, its effort is to enhance the quality life for the disabled and to help them to be integrated into the society. However, most of the disabled came from poor family and their mobility limitations was their major obstacle. Therefore, various aid equipments are needed to enable them to live independently.

With the generous support from the community and witness by Y.B. Datin Paduka Chew Mei Fun, we were able to provide 10 light weight wheelchair，3 motorcycles and 1 motorized wheelchair for their usage. We still in need of 35 light weight wheelchairs, 13 motorized wheelchairs and 23 three wheeled motorcycles. We hope the community will come forward to support our effort in helping more needy disabled to be more mobile.

自立生活技巧训练课程 Independent Living Programme

自立生活技巧训练课程(ILSTP)宗旨乃是协助残障人士在思想上、情感上及生活上自立。学员可从他们的亲身经历中学习面对困境, 迈向所设订的目标，处理自身的安全、个人卫生、烹煮、清洁、购物、办理户口来往、财政预算和社交活动。今年4月，我们分别在八打灵美门中心及甲洞美门中心开始推动课程，共有40个残障学员从中受惠。

参与课程的其中一位学员杨居顺先生,今年 44岁, 患上贝克尔肌肉萎缩症(肌肉退化疾病)。自从残障过后, 他被家人安置在疗养院，一切生活起居皆需依靠他人来协助。 在疗养院里, 他失去生命的自由和选择，这让他承受巨大压力和失望, 以致他对自己失去信心，对事业和前途也渐失去了盼望。

当他参加了自立生活技巧课程后, 他开始改变了思想观念和建立起自己的生命价值。 他学会了必要的知识和生活技能, 使他恢复自尊和自力。对于他，自立生活不再是遥不可及的事，因他已拥有一个实现梦想的机会，并于6月份毅然决定离开疗养院，投入自立生活的旅程。

The Independence Living Skill Training Program (ILSTP) is aimed to encourage disabled person on their mindset, relation and living to be independent and to help them live more positively. Participants gain real-life experience with such issues such as goals setting, safety, hygiene, cooking, cleaning, laundry, shopping, banking, budgeting and socialization. In April, this training program was also conducted in our centre at Petaling Jaya and Kepong. There are currently forty disabled people benefited from such wonderful program.


Yeoh Kee Soon, 44 years old, was suffering from Becker Muscular Dystrophy (a muscles degeneration disease). After the onset of his disability, he was placed in a nursing home as he required assistants. In the nursing home, he had lack of freedom and do not have any choice for his daily needs. It caused tremendous pressure and frustration for him, it seem that he has lost his confident, hope, career and future.

However, when he participated in the independent living program, he began to change his mindset and established self worthiness of life. He gained necessary knowledge and skills, enabling him to regain self-esteem and self-reliance. He has an opportunity to make his dreams a reality; to him living an independent life is no longer difficult.

电脑赠送移交仪式 Computer Handover Ceremony

美门残障关怀基金会一直积极为残障人士推动教育及培训计划，提供专业课程，鼓励他们装备自己以开拓更美好的将来。3月6日有幸获得实达基金会（SP SETIA FOUNDATION）捐赠10部高性能电脑，为残障学员提供更完善的学习设备。出席当天的电脑移交仪式的有实达基金会主席丹斯里李霖泰、房屋与地方政府部长夫人拿汀斯里张秀梅及拿汀侯婷婷等。

A computer handover ceremony was held at Beautiful Gate Foundation For The Disabled on 6th March for 10 units of computer which were donated by SP Setia Foundation. With this new equipment Beautiful Gate will be able to provide a more pleasant learning environment for the disabled students in line with the aim & purpose of the Organization.

残障同胞和平请愿争取权益 Peace Rally

1月2日的清晨，共130名残障人士和100名义工参与由马来西亚自立生活启发委员会发动的请愿活动。当天在联邦直辖区部政务次长拿督姚长禄的参与游行下，我们从甲洞美门残障康复中心出发，行驶2公里路程前往甲洞电动火车站。此项和平请愿活动除了希望得到政府关注，增设残障人士专用公共设施以外，主要目的是吁请大马铁道公司修改设计不当的斜坡，以及要求市政局提升甲洞卫星市行人走道。
另外，我们又分别于4月30日在霹雳安顺，7月16日在巴生进行相同的和平请愿活动。后者获得贸工部政务次长拿订巴杜卡陈仪乔的参与与支持。

In the morning of 2nd Jan, 130 disabled and 100 volunteers took part in the rally organized by the Malaysian Independent Living Group. This is to enhance the public transport facility for the disabled. The rally was at Kepong Baru market adjacent to Beautiful Gate Rehabilitation Centre, covering a distance of 2 km until Kepong KTM station. The purpose of this rally was to lobby for the need of the disable for the construction of public infrastructures that are accessible to the disabled by the relevant authorities. It is also to appeal to KTM to modify the existing ramp which is not suitable for the disabled and also appeal to DBKL to enhance the pedestrian path in Kepong Baru. On 30th of April, similar rally was also held in Teluk Intan, and 16th July held in Klang.

美门资源回收工作坊 Beautiful Gate Recycling Centre

由世界宣明会与星洲日报所赞助的美门资源回收工作坊于今年4月15日正式开幕，由白沙罗州议员拿督林春景、星州日报主笔罗正文以及大马世界宣明会执行董事刘东源主持开幕仪式。资源回收工作坊不但为残障人士制造工作机会，同时也协助提升市民的环保意识，并为美门中心开拓运作经费来源。欢迎公众人士捐赠可再循环的物品，包括旧报纸、书本、纸张、纸箱、旧衣物、电器、电脑、铝罐、塑胶瓶等。

Beautiful Gate Recycle Centre, which is sponsored by Sin Chew Jit Poh and World Vision, was officially opened on 15th April by YB Dato Lim Choon Kin, ADUN of Kawasan Damansara, chief
leader writer of Sin Chew Co-operation Berhad and executive derector of World Vision. The establishment of the centre created employment opportunities for the disabled and also promoted good environment consciousness in the area. This project also helps to generate incomes for centres of Beautiful Gate Foundation to cover part of the expenses. You are welcome to donate recyclable items to us including old newspaper, books, papers, boxes, old clothes, electrical items, computers, cans, plastic bottles, etc.

元宵残障关怀晚会 Chap Goh Mei Party

一年之计在于春，新春为人们带来新气息、新希望。在这个华人传统农历新年期间，雪隆一带的残障朋友在美门残障关怀基金会的鼓励下，自组工作队举办一项共有两百多位残障人士出席的《元宵残障关怀晚会》。当天除了欢庆佳节，促进残障同胞的联系之外，也捐赠一辆电动轮椅给重度残障的朋友，让他们也能过自立的生活。

The joy and hope of Chinese New Year was celebrated under the effort of the CNY celebration Organizing Committee. About 200 disabled in Klang Valley participated. This celebration promoted closer relationship among the disabled and a motorized wheelchair was donated to help a severely disabled people to enable him to experience independent living.
